Home: Belcarra neighbourhood (Port Moody)

Belcarra is a tiny, exclusive neighbourhood of some 650 upper-income residents. Its location on the wooded eastern shore of Indian Arm offers superb views of Burrard Inlet, beaches, fishing, but also makes it a very intimate--though somewhat isolated--community. Residents here have a long commute, whether to work or to shop.

The community was named in the 1870s by Judge Norman Bole, combining the Gaelic words for sun and rock, bal+carra.

Homes
Homes in Belcarra cost $300,000-800,000 inland; and $900,000-1.5 million along the waterfront.

Most houses here are older wood-frame cottages and bungalows, though there are now some newer senior-executive waterfront properties. Because of its isolation, all homes get their water from wells and dispose of sewage using septic tanks.

Schools
Local elementary students commute to the nearby Village of Anmore’s school, and then into Port Moody for Secondary levels.

Shopping
Aside from small shops in the village, residents need to drive into Port Moody and Coquitlam for their shopping

Recreation
Belcarra Regional Park, a large oceanside park with complete recreational amenities surrounds the community. A short way up the road is Sasamat Lake the warmest lake in the area and suitable for swimming, and also nearby is Buntzen Lake, which is pretty and great for boating, but too cold for wimming.
