Homes: Bay Ridge - Altamont (West Vancouver)
These low density hillside communities are below the Upper Levels Highway in the area east of Cypress Creek to Rogers Creek. This community includes the neighbourhoods of Sandy Grove, Sherman, West Bay, Westmount, Wadsley and Altamont. Because these streets and homes are built into the rugged hillsides, the grid layout followed in the eastern parts of "West Van" is no longer being used for road layout. These communities are reached from Exit 7 of the Upper Levels, or from Marine Drive. Shopping The closest shopping is to the west along Marine Drive at Caulfeild Village Shopping Centre. There are also lots of shops and restaurants to the east along Marine Drive, though Park Royal Shopping Centre is the area's major shopping spot. Schools The area is served by West Bay and Cypress Park elementary schools, along Marine Drive, and students attend Rock Ridge Secondary to the west. Recreation This area has a number of small parks around the community, and a few along the waterfront including Altamont Beach Park. Skiing and other recreational activities are accessed up the hill at Cypress Bowl and in Cypress Provincial Park. To the west is rugged Lightouse Park, with forested trails and great views of the Burrard Inlet. Homes Most of the homes in this area are single family homes, with a small portion of duplexes. The area is more mature, with half the homes built prior to 1960 and about 40% built prior to 1990, and about 10% of the homes built since them.
