Homes: Killarney, Champlain (Vancouver)


There are actually two neighbourhoods in this area: Killarney and Champlain Heights. Killarney is the neighbourhood between East 41st and East 49th, centered around Rupert St. South of East 49th, Rupert turns to Kerr St, and Champlain is named for the mall though the neighbourhood has lots of twisting roads, trees, and parkland. The south end of the neighbourhood is dominated by Everett Crowley Park on the slope down to the Fraser River on one side of Kerr and Fraserview Golf course on the other. The community is served at its northern end by the Joyce SkyTrain Station.

Homes
The Killarney community is a mix of single-family homes, row houses, rental units, apartments. Most of the homes were built since the 1970s and 80s. Champlain Heights is a neighbourhood with made up of a variety of townhomes in the north and single-family homes closer to Everett Crowley Park.

Shopping
The area's dominant mall is Champlain Square. There are a variety of shops and restaurants along Kingsway, including the Collingwood-Kingsway Mall at East 41st Street.

Recreation
Activity in the neighbourhood is centered around two places. The first is the Killarney Community Centre beside Killarney Secondary School. It offers a variety of recreational activities such as ice skating, swimming, fitness workouts, and tai chi classes. Just to the east, in Burnaby's Central Park, with a stadium, running track, and outdoor pool, a pitch & putt golf course, lawn bowling, baseball diamonds and sports field..

These neighbourhoods have 8 elementary schools and students attend Killarney Secondary School. The area's public library is located at Champlain Square Mall. The neighbourhood is close to Burnaby's BCIT campus.
