Homes: Park Royal (West Vancouver)
This community on the west side of the Capilano River, clustered around the Park Royal Shopping Centre, and extends up Taylor Way to the Upper Levels (Trans -Canada) Highway (Upper Levels Exit 13). The area includes the neighbourhoods of Sentinel Hill and Cedarvale. The streets here are aligned along a grid and the Avenues are named in alphabetical order from the waterfront, and the streets are numbered from the Capilano River. This area is served by the Inglewood Hospital at the top of Taylor Way, below the Upper Levels Highway. These neighbourhoods have great views over Burrard Inlet to Stanley Park, and have excellent proximity to Vancouver via the Lion's Gate Bridge. The Park Royal Shopping Centre and the Lions Gate Bridge draws a lot of traffic to the area, making area roads quite busy. Shopping Park Royal Shopping Centre and the Village at Park Royal are the area's big shopping and restaurant draw. There are lots of other shops, restaurant and services along Marine Drive, with smaller shops to the west at Ambleside Village and chain retailers to the east of the Capilano River. Schools These neighbourhoods are served by St Anthony's, Hollyburn, and Ridgeview Elementary Schools, and by West Vancouver Secondary School, wit a public library to the west in Ambleside. The neighbourhoods have a number of small parks scattered throughout, but the largest park is Ambleside, tucked behind Park Royal along the Capilano River. The park has great shoreline pathway with views of Stanley Park, tennis courts, a pitch & putt course, a beach, and outdoor pool, several baseball diamonds, sports and soccer fields, and tennis courts. There is a sailing club just west of 13th Street beside the park.Homes The homes here are two-thirds apartments/condos greater than 4 stories, with one-fifth single-family homes one-tenth low-rise apartments/condos. About half the buildings were built before the 1970s, with 30% built in the 1970s and 10% in the 1980s, with about one-eight of residences built since 1990.
