Lochdale, Parkcrest (City of Burnaby) - Vancouver neighbourhoods

Lochdale is a single-family neighbourhood in North Burnaby, west of Burnaby Mountain. It lies between busy Kensington Ave to the west and Duthie Ave to the east, and south of Hastings Street to Halifax Street, plus a hillside residential area between Burnaby Mountain Parkway and Greystone Drive. The community also includes the neighbourhoods of Montecito, Sperling Park, Duthie. The community is served by

Sperling Station on the recently built Millennium Line, and has excellent access to area malls.

The area has great views toward Burnaby Mountain, good access into downtown Vancouver and to nearby Simon Fraser University. The area was given its Scottish name for its gradual slope southwards towards Burnaby Lake. The area was first developed in 1912, but grew quickly before and after the Second World War with European immigrants, especially Eastern European and Italian. The neighbourhood's 1925 community hall is now a heritage site,


The area is mostly single-family housing, with the area closest to Hastings St which has some low-income housing.


The neighbourhood is served by two elementary schools (Lochdale Community and Westridge) as well as by Burnaby North Secondary School. The area's post-secondary students have excellent access to BCIT to the southwest and Simon Fraser University to the east.


The popular Hastings Street shopping district between Kensington Ave and Clare Ave has lots of shops & restaurants, and Lougheed Mall is to the southwest. Electric Buses At Turnabout


The community has a number of small parks scattered account the neighbourhood. To the west is Kensington Park, with a pitch & put, a running track, and outdoor pool and an ice arena. To the east is Burnaby Mountain Conservation Area with its forested slopes and Centennial Park, as well as the Burnaby Mountain Golf Course. There is a small Montecito Park with some tennis courts. The /Transportation-Canada Trail runs along the north side of Hastings and continues toward picturesque Burrard Inlet.
