This includes most of downtown, the railway yards, as well as the communities of Mar Hill, Lower Mary Hill and Citadel. These neighbourhoods are closer to the Port Coquitlam station of the West Coast Express, and Port Coquitlam's municipal offices. These neighbourhoods are also close to the Meridian Industrial Park south of the rail yards. These neighbourhoods are buffered from Highway 7 to the west by the Coquitlam Indian Reservation, home to the Kwayhquitlum First Nation.
There is a small shopping area around the town centre near the train station. Most residents head up to the large malls around Coquitlam Centre.
The south part of Port Coquitlam has 6 elementary school, 1 public library and Riverside Secondary school. All post-secondary institutions are a commute away, with the Coquitlam Campus of Douglas College being the closest.
The Poco Recreation centre, and the public library are in this part of Port Coquitlam.
The homes her are smaller north of Pitt River Rd, the oldest part of Port Coquitlam. West of Shaughnessy are newer multi-family low rise townhouses. South of Eastern Drive are recently built smaller suburban starter homes.
