Greater Vancouver Local Directory & Community Resources and Info

The Lower Mainland stretches from Vancouver for quite a distance in the wide valley of the Fraser River. Some of these Nearby Communities make up the "North Shore", North Vancouver, West Vancouver and Lion's Bay, which lie north of Burrard Inlet to the north of the City of Vancouver. while others are between the Burrard Inlet and the Fraser River, including the City of Vancouver, as well as Burnaby, New Westminster, Coquitlam, Port Coquitlam, and Port Moody. South of the Fraser, and north of the American border are the remaining communities of Richmond, Delta, Tsawwassan, Surrey, and White Rock.

Vancouver Local Information

The region has a colourful history, with the first nations who had settled here for thousands of years being friendly traders with early explorers and fur-traders.

The region really began to boom with the 1850s gold rush, and had a momentum of its own once the Canadian Pacific Railway reached the Port Moody and a bit later, Vancouver.
