The region has a colourful history, with the first nations who had settled here for thousands of years being friendly traders with early explorers and fur-traders. The region really began to boom with the 1850s gold rush, and had a momentum of its own once the Canadian Pacific Railway reached the Port Moody and a bit later, Vancouver.
